lindsey & jake part two
got up early and walked the few blocks toward Friday Harbor, to the coffee shop i’d been going to the previous couple of days. the quiet of an early saturday morning—the cooler air left over from the night before. got ready and then here came Lindsey and friends. grabbed omelettes from Cynthia’s and then out to the house to prepare for the day.
the best kind of start. i’m with your friends. we’re eating breakfast over a kitchen island. recalling stories from the night before. and all weekend long i get asked “are you a friend of the bride and groom?” and i know what they’re asking (what they mean), but the answer now is yes—and that’s my goal all the time. i just keep praying and the right couples come my way and then weekends like this. where we meet on a thursday and by saturday there’s no effort at all. right into place.
oh where to start.
the light and wind pouring through the windows in soft lapping waves. the house full of their favorite people—a constant stream of laughter and hilarity. chance the rapper’s new album playing (and wouldn’t you know it’s about a wedding) and while she was preparing upstairs, he was on the ground floor waiting for her. and the hours ticked quickly like minutes and before we knew we were taking deep final breaths of all the lavender and the dusky darkness of early night and it was over. i’d do it over again a thousand times. they let me in, full trust, *a seat at the table*, the best way to see it all. photographs of every person, the relationships displayed in full. this is how i work best. this is how you get the best photos. trust and friendship.
agreements made by deep blue sea, between here and Canada—everything magnified in the late summer sun. the lighthouse a sign for all time. dancing in lavender fields under a heavy lidded sky. and when they left you could hear the cheers from the trolley a mile down the road as they filled the coolness of the night.
