freedom
for the past nine months, my brother in law has been serving in Afghanistan, with his sweet little wife (my sister in law) waiting for him here in the States. and tonight we got to be there when she saw him for the first time.
It's crazy--you're in this field, sitting in the bleachers, with all of these families. and you're just waiting for the buses to pull up. there's music playing and people holding signs and kids running around everywhere and these giant bright lights on the field and it's a major adrenaline rush. because they're coming home--husbands, mothers, boyfriends, sisters, sons, daughters, wives. and they're safe. and they served our country in a way you and I never will.
When the buses pulled away, and the soldiers stood there on the other side of the field, the whole night sky lit up. It was electrifying. And then following Ashley until she found Kevin--one of the most special nights. something I'll never forget. It's 1:30 AM and here I am wide awake because of it.
I love my sweet little family. And I'm thankful for each of them.
